Q. How many intakes does evolution have a year?

Q. What is the english level required?

 
The level of English that is requried is 5.5 or equivalent (upper intermediate level, EAP2, FCE certificate, TOEIC)

Q. How many days a week do I need to study?

 
Each course will vary how frequently you will need to attend class.
For international students, you need to study 2 full days and 5 hours of E-Learning to make up the 20 hour Visa Study requirement.

Q. Will I have access to computers/Internet?

 

Yes, you will have access to the computers here at the college. You will also be issued a laptop upon enrolment if you meet the requirements.

All locations on-site have active Wifi for students.

Q. Do i need to have health cover/insurance?

 
Health insurance is compulsory when on a student visa.

Q. Can i take holidays during my study?

 

You cannot take holidays during your studies. However, if you view the academic calendar you can view the dates you are able to take off during the school breaks.

Evolution may only enable students to temporarily suspend their studies, including granting a leave of absence, during the course through formal agreement in certain limited circumstances i.e for major illness, accident or other exceptional compassionate circumstances beyond the control of the student. e.g. Death in the family.

Q. Do I need to pay for food?

 
No, you don’t need to pay for the food. It is included in your tuition fees.

Q. Does evolution have payment instalments?

 

Yes, we have payment instalments. No need to make all your payments at once!

Q. How much is my first payment?

Q. Do I need IELTS to enter the course?

 

IELTS is compulsory for assessment level 3 countries such as China, Columbia, Vietnam, Phillipines, but not compulsory for other assessment level countries.

Other proof of English is still required: upper intermediate certificate, EAP2, FCE certificates TOEIC)

Q. Where is the school located?

 
We have a training facility in the heart of the Sydney CBD. This site has fully equipped training kitchens and classroom facilities. They have been designed for ease of training in a commercial kitchen environment with separate training rooms, so all our students will be trained with us on site.

Q. What do i need to wear to class?

 

On orientation, you received a full Chef Uniform and an Evolution Black T Shirt

You are required to wear supplied uniforms to Practical and Theory Sessions.

Practical Sessions: Full Chef Uniform MUST be worn. This involves a clean and ironed neck tie, skull cap, chef jacket, pants and apron. You must also wear enclosed shoes also supplied with your uniform.
If you are not in uniform your trainer will turn you away and you will be marked as a non-attendance. (unable to attend the practical class)
Theory Sessions: To theory sessions you must wear smart casual clothing along with the Evolution Black T-Shirt. Additional Polos can be purchased at reception.

Q. What is the safety and Security on campus?

 
On orientation day, you were issued a student identification card. This must be on your persons always. Security and your trainers may ask for this on your arrival. Please note that should you have an IT Issue this will not be solved without your identification card.
 
Please note that replacement cards are available and you will be charged a small fee.

For your safety and in the event of an Emergency, fire exists (2 located on each level) are left open. The fire exists are not a place of rest or easy exit. Should you be found using the exits improperly this may result into disciplinary action.
 
In the event of an Emergency you are required to follow EHI Emergency Procedures. This is covered at orientation. During your time at EHI you will also take part in several Emergency Evacuation Drills. Always STOP and follow instructions from EHI staff in Emergency situations.
 

Q. Class times and Attendance?

 
On orientation, you were informed and given your time table. Times indicated for Practical and Theory Sessions. It is your responsibility to ensure that you attend the campus at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time of your time table.
 
Late arrivals will not be tolerated as they are disruptive to your trainer and peers.
 
If you arrive late to class, the Trainer has the discretion to turn you away and you will be marked as non-attendance.
 
Your attendance is an important component of your academics as well as a requirement of your Student VISA. If your attendance drops lower than 80% you will be notified by a EHI Staff member from the Student Support Team. Note: you will need to have valid reason for non-attendance supported by Medical Certificates.
 

Q. How do I update personal Information?

 
Student condition Number: 8533 – You must tell your education provider the address where you live in Australia within 7 days of arriving Australia. If you change the address where you live within 7 days you must notify the provider.
 
As an International Student, you are required to report to EHI any personal changes relating to your:
•Living address
•Contact details (phone or personal email)
You MUST report these changes by completing Personal Information Update Form.
 
Note; for living details you must include a street number the name of the street, suburb and post code. You must also indicate if this is both your mailing and living address. If your postal address is different you must indicate these details in your email.
 
If you have changed your passport, your name or personal email address, mobile number. OSHC details, Australian contact person details, overseas contact person details, please use the same form to update the information.
 

Q. My academics results – How do i access my results in the Student portal?

 
You can check your progression of each subject from your Student Portal.
 
From the Student Portal you are able to see where you have been awarded a unit of competency (subject) as Competent or Not Yet Competent.
 
If a result is Not Yet Competent you would have been advised of this by your trainer, then again by notification from the Student Support Department.

Q. Is it compulsory that I complete industry work placement? (IWP)

 
Yes, all International Students are required to complete Industry Work Placement.
 
The Industry Work Placement Department of Trainers and Assessors will advise you very early when commencing your course what will be required of you.
 
For further information refer to Industry Work Placement Policy which can be found on the EHI website: www.evolution.edu.au and the Student Handbook.
 
If you do not complete (IWP) you will not complete your course which will result to a Statement of Attainment at Graduation.
 

Q. I am a student at EHI, can i Enrol into other courses? (Further Study)

 
This will depend on your Student Visa. You will need to contact EHI Enrolment Department and the staff here will be able to advise you about your best options and pathways in the Hospitality Industry. Send an email to enrol@evolution.edu.au
 
When sending an email, you must include:
•Your Name
•Student ID number
•Your contact number
•A brief explanation of your want to enroll into an additional qualification
 

Q. How will i Receive important notifications?

 
Prior and during orientation you would have been informed that all communication will now be sent to your personal Evolution email address. You are advised that you should visit this email box regularly and where possible activate your devices to alert you of emails from this email account.
 
Your EHI email account is your student ID number followed by @students.evolution.edu.au.
 
For example: Ben Tan’s student ID Number is : 204768 his EHI email address is;
204678@students.evolution.edu.au
 

Q. I have a complaint, where do I go?

 
You are able to lodge complaints by sending an email or filling out an online form. Please see our Contact Us page for further contact details.

Q. How and When will I get access to the Student Portal?

 
New Students
 
All new students to EHI are informed about the student portal at orientation.
 
During orientation, you will receive a copy of the IT Handbook with your Laptop.
 
The IT Handbook will advise you about accessing the Student Portal. Your Trainers and assessors will support you during class when you are required to access the Student Portal for the e-learning component of your course.
 
Existing Students
 
If you are an existing student at EHI as of January 2017 you will have access to the Student Portal.

Q. How do I reset my password in the Student Portal and Moodle?

 
You can reset your password for your Student Portal by yourself by clicking on update my password.
 
You will need to contact IT Support to reset your password for Moodle.
 

Q. I would like to show my employer that I can work unlimited hours during holiday break, what Should i do?

 
Please fill in Document Request Form and choose Confirmation of Holiday letter. Once you have submitted the form online, please write email in the feedback section in your student portal indicating you have already completed online form to request Confirmation of Holiday letter

Q. I would like to request my certificate, record of results and/or completion letter for ther previous course that i have completed. What should i do?

 

Q. I would like to request a letter to show my employer I am currently completing industry work Placement

 

Q. The department of immigration and border protection asks me to provide an attendance letter, and/or a letter confirming I am a current student at evolution, what should i do?

Q. DIBP Asks Me To Provide A Letter To Show I Worked A Certain Number Of Hours During My Industry Work Placement. What Should I Do?

Q. I Would Like To Change My Current Timetable. What Should I Do?

 
Students are not allowed to change the timetable during the term of study to avoid the confusion and troubles when you are transferred to one class to another.
 
If you would like to request a change of your timetable in the following term, Please fill in Timetable Transfer Request Form online on https://www.evolution.edu.au/forms-and-policies.
 
Once you have submitted the form online, please write email in the feedback section in your student portal indicating you have already completed online form to request timetable change.
 

Q. I Would Like To Take A Holiday Overseas. What Should I Do?

 
Please fill in Leave of Absence Notice Form online on https://www.evolution.edu.au/forms-and-policies
 
Once you have submitted the form online, please send an email from the feedback section in your student portal indicating you have already completed online form to request a timetable change.

Q. I Would Like To Suspend My Study During The Term Of Study. What Should I Do?

 
Please fill in Application to Suspend Studies form online on https://www.evolution.edu.au/forms-and-policies . Once you have submitted the form online, please write email in the feedback section in your student portal indicating you have already completed online form to request suspension of study. You will be contacted by Student Support Officer regarding an appointment.  

Q. I Would Like To Book For Reassessment Or Repeat Of Unit. What Should I Do?

 
Please come to Reception and make a payment outlined on the reassessment or repeat of unit notification letter by EFTPOS or cash. You will receive a confirmation letter on the same day advising the time, date and location of the reassessment. For repeat of unit, you will be notified of the schedule when the timetabling is complete for next term.  

Q. How should i prepare for reassessment?

 
For practical reassessment, you will receive one handout for the unit(s) you are going to do the reassessment. For theory reassessment, please email our Head of Academic Amgad Hanna on amgad.hanna@evolution.edu.au. 

Q. I am sick on one training day. What should i do?

 
You must go to see a General Practitioner (GP) in a medical center and obtain a medical certificate. You are then required to give the medical certificate to reception located on Level 4 within 3 days so your attendance record can be updated. On the day of sickness you should send a message or call the campus so that a message can be given to your trainer. If you are requiring reassessment you may be exempted from the reassessment fee under this circumstance but this decision will be made only by the Student Support Manager.
