Working

Permission to Work arrangements for Student visa holders have changed. If you were granted a Student visa on or after 26 April 2008, you and your dependent family members will already have Permission to Work automatically included with your visa. Further information about on the conditions that apply to working while studying is available.

If you were granted a Student visa before 26 April 2008 and have not yet applied for Permission to Work, you and your dependent family members may only apply for Permission to Work after you have started your course in Australia.

You do not need a visa label to be placed in your passport as evidence of your work rights. Your visa information is held electronically and you can access it at any time using the Visa Entitlement Verification Online (VEVO) system. Employers, banks and government services can also check details about your visa entitlements on VEVO once they have your consent to do so. Further information on how to access VEVO is available.

You are allowed to work part time (up to 20 hours per week) provided this does not interfere with your studies. If you breach this condition and are caught working in excess of 20 hours, it may result in the cancellation of your Student Visa. If you would like to work additional hours during term breaks, contact us and request a Hliday Letter, this will let your employer know that you are not attending classes for the break and are able to work extra hours without breaking the conditions of your visa.

Tax file number

You must obtain a Tax File Number to be able to work in Australia. This is available from the Australian Tax Office. Go to http://www.ato.gov.au/taxprofessionals/content.asp?doc=/content/64067.htm and read further information on the Australian Tax Office website www.ato.gov.au.

Holidays

It is a condition of your Visa that you take holidays from your course only during official Institute breaks (except due to exceptional circumstances usually beyond your control). You should therefore plan your visits home during these times only. If compelling circumstance mean you need to consider taking a break from your study during the term, you wil need to complete a 'Student Leave Form' and make an appointment with us. You will need to bring the completed form, along with any evidence or documents you have supporting your request with you.

Sickness

If you are absent from the Institute due to sickness, you will be required to contact the Institue as soon as possible and present a medical certificate to explain your absence. Evolution Hospitality Institute does not have the right to grant you attendance however; medical certificates are submitted to DIAC for consideration if you intend to extend your visa for further studies.

Please note that we only accept medical certificates from registered Doctors in Australia.
